Instagram notifications: how to turn on and customize

Most users do not spend 24 hours a day on Instagram and therefore set up push notifications. These notifications, appearing on the screen, allow you not to miss any important event, such as a subscription or a new comment from a user.

However, things do not always go smoothly. Sometimes Instagram notifications simply do not come to your phone, which is very frustrating. What to do in this situation? If this question is on your mind, then you are in the right place. This article will discuss this problem and more.

What are Push notifications?

First, let’s understand what Push notifications are on Instagram. It’s a window with text that appears on your screen, regardless of whether your phone is locked or actively in use. This window displays an action that you should know about, such as someone following you or leaving a message in your direct messages. As mentioned earlier, this option ensures that you don’t miss anything important. Thanks to it, you don’t have to constantly monitor your message windows and the “heart” section.

For convenience, let’s look at what such a message can tell you. After turning on Push notifications in your settings, your phone will receive notifications about the following actions:

  • New comments and likes on your posts;
  • A message has been received in your direct messages;
  • One of your subscriptions has started a live broadcast;
  • A new story has appeared;
  • Someone has subscribed to you or accepted a friend request (if your profile is private);
  • You have been mentioned in a post or tagged in a photo.

How to set up notifications if they are not coming

So, what should you do if notifications are not coming? It’s simple, you need to turn them on again. Perhaps, during the latest update, all settings were “reset.”

There are two options for connecting notifications:

  • directly through the social network program;
  • through the “Settings” of your phone.

Let’s take a closer look at each of them: the first one may not work, but the second one will.

Useful tip. Check if the power-saving mode is turned on on your device. After all, to save battery charge, this option “does not allow” push messages.

In the application itself

Let’s start with the first method – setting up notifications through the InstaSeti program. To do this:

1. Launch the application and log in to your account by entering your login (username/email address/phone number) and password in the input form.
2. Tap on the “person” icon and the menu button in the upper right corner of the screen.
3. Go to settings and click on the “Notifications” option.
4. Check the boxes next to “From everyone” for important moments. For example, “Mentions in bio.”

Done. There is no need to save anything, the changes take effect automatically. This is how you can enable Push notifications on Android and iPhone.

In phone settings

Through settings, everything is much easier. You will have to activate only two simple toggles, instead of 15-20 items in the program. Namely:

  1. Unlock your gadget screen and scroll the desktop to the “Settings” icon.
  2. Scroll down to the “Apps” section.
  3. Select the “All Apps” tab.
  4. Find “Instagram” in the list and click on it.
  5. Tap on the “Notifications” option.
  6. Click on “Show Notifications”. After that, some of the additional options will become active.
  7. Click on “Allow pop-up messages”.

Thanks to this, corresponding “windows” will now appear on your screen for every event in Insta.

You can also do the following:

  • Add an indicator (it will flash when the screen is locked if a Push comes from the social network);
  • Turn on or off the sound notification in Instagram;
  • Activate vibration for SMS messages.

Turn on Instagram notification sound: all methods

Developers have pleased their clients by adding an interesting feature to the platform. Now on iPhone and Android, it is possible to turn on Instagram notifications for a specific user or, conversely, to mute them. Let’s figure out how to do this below.

In history

To be the first to know about the releases of the new idol’s stories, you can enable the corresponding notifications. To do this:

  1. Open the Instaseti app and log in to your account.
  2. Tap on the “person” icon and click on “Following”.
  3. Find the desired user from the list and open their page.
  4. Click on the “Following” button located next to the “Message” and “Contact” buttons.
  5. Select “Notifications”.
  6. Toggle the switch next to “Stories” to the on position.

That’s it, now you just have to wait for the fresh videos.

Important. If there is no sound on push notifications, you need to check if the “Sound” option for Instagram is enabled in the phone’s system settings.

On publication

If you want to receive information about when an interesting user posts a new publication, do the following:

  1. Go to the page of the idol and tap on “Subscriptions”.
  2. Check the box next to “Publications”.
  3. Delete unnecessary notifications if necessary.

On messages

Unfortunately, it is not possible to subscribe to mailing lists for direct messages. You will have to turn on the sound in the application settings. To do this:

  1. Open Instagram and go to settings through your profile page.
  2. Tap on the “Notifications” tab and select “Direct Messages”.
  3. Turn on all options.

How to disable or postpone Push notifications

If, on the other hand, you want to turn off all notifications, you can do it just as easily. There are two ways to do this:

  • The “pause” option in the social network;
  • Through the gadget’s system settings.

Important. It is possible to uncheck boxes manually in the program, but it will take a lot of time.

Let’s figure out how to proceed in each of these options.

The first:

  1. Open the Instagram app and go to settings.
  2. Click on “Notifications”.
  3. Find the “Pause all” line and tap on it.
  4. Select the period for which you need to mute messages. Available range: from 15 minutes to 8 hours.

As you may have already understood, this method is only suitable for those who plan to get rid of intrusive Push notifications for a short time.

The second:

  1. Unlock the device and click on the “Settings” icon.
  2. Scroll down the screen to the “Apps” column.
  3. Select “All apps” and find Insta from the list.
  4. Click on “Notifications” and uncheck the “Show notifications” box.

Done. Unlike the first one, this method allows you to permanently “mute” the social network.

Each of the above methods should help turn on notifications in Instagram. If it still didn’t happen, perhaps the problem is more serious. Try to solve it as follows: update the OS and social network program to the latest version, as well as “stabilize” your internet connection. If this is still powerless, be sure to contact technical support.
